I’ve noticed that water left in the kettle overnight will turn brown by morning, even though my tap water and water that’s freshly boiled are clear. I’ve only had this kettle a few months, the old one never turned the water brown. Is this normal? I’ve heard people mention that kettles should be descaled- will that help? Any ideas/advice? Thanks!
Thanks, but it’s a normal metal kettle, not electric- no filter and no way to open it up.

If the water is turning brown, I’m betting it’s a cheap Chinese-made kettle that’s rusting inside. If so, descaling won’t help (scale is mostly lime & won’t change the water color to brown anyway).
Take it back where you bought it & see if they’ll let you swap it out. If possible, add a few bucks & get a stainless steel kettle.
Another possibility is that you or someone else used it to brew tea. Tea leaves a residue that’s harder to clean & it could change the taste & color of your water. If that’s the case, it needs a thorough cleaning.
Buy a new kettle, one that has a filter. or just look inside and see if there is anything odd that could turn the water brown.
Just clean it with vinegar and it will be fine….
