Everything is working pretty well traveling in the car. We have got all our stuff sorted out into sections in the trunk of the car, so we just get what we need for each night and take a small bag inside each stop. All the motels have laundry’s, so no going hunting for laundromats. The other thing every motel seems to have is an ice machine, so I could have bought a eski from Walmart to keep our stuff cold instead of the fridge. Now Elle is looking over my shoulder reading and whining that she cant make a cup of tea. So it looks like we are off to Walmart again to buy a kettle! Americans don’t drink tea so there are only coffee makers in the motels. About the Yanks. I never dreamt I would be saying this because the only citizens of the USA that we have come across in recent times have been tourists in Europe, we see very, very few at home in the caravan park. I think everyone knows the reputation of the American tourist. In their homeland you could not get a friendlier more polite lot of people. Everything is “after you , excuse me, etc, etc ” we have to be polishing up on our manners!!! Time to hit the road! We toured Joshua Tree NP today and …

However, we console ourselves by counting down to our return to reunite with family and friends at home. The flight was quick and comfy as we crossed into the Gulf of Thailand then eased over the coast with Bangkok city in the distance. Once down we found a taxi driver and thrashed out a fair price before heading off. Once entering the locality of our destination it became apparent that our driver hadn’t a clue where the hotel was. He tried 2 or 3 before we told him to drop us off at the end of Khaosan road and we walked from there. The only indication as to its whereabouts was a sign pointing through the throng of shoppers and traders to a narrow allyway. 100metres or so meandering past dingy shop stalls and large puddles we encountered our abode for the next 5 days. Shoehorned into a square mile of shanty town was the ‘Sawasdee Banglumpoo Inn’. I dont know the interpretation for the word in Thai but bang, lump and poo are adequate to describe the cramped room (as in lump on the head), bang for all the noise and poo for the smell! The living and working conditions of those native to this area was awful. They looked and behaved as people worn down by overwork and stress. The condition of the beggers was in a league of …
