How much money do we need to save up for our first home?

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

Me and my boyfriend of 3 years are planning on moving from our parents home into our own home. We are looking at private rented ones between 350/400 pcm. We know we need about 1100 to cover bond and first months rent and tenency fees ect. We have enough income a month to afford the monthly bit but its hard saving and we want to move asap!! We have also started buying things we need like kettle toaster pans plates cups bedding ect. Any advice would be appreciated!! Oh and we wont need to buy bed/tv/kitchen appliances cause we have all those.

Solar Panels? Watts? How much will it cost? How much will i save?

    Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

I’m moving out when im old enough and buy a house… about 3 rooms and 1 bathroom most likely will have these electronics:
    -Toaster
    -Kettle
    -Microwave
    -Air Conditioning
    -Freezer/Fridge
    -5 Lamps
    -3 ceiling fans
    -Air Conditioning and Heating
    -Lap Top (maybe TV)
    -6 Fans

About how many Watts would be used on average in a month? How many/how big will the solar panels need to be? Whats the cheapest place to buy them in Ohio? How do i get goverment discounts and all that? Also it snows a lot here and i heard Solar Panels can freeze.. is that true? I also heard that the buyer only has to pay 30% of the overall cost of the pannels… PLEASE HELP <3 THANKS!

Gifts or cash for wedding gift? Is it VERY rude to ask for cash?

      Monday, February 7th, 2011

My boy friend and I has been living together for a while. We got everything that we want such as TV, AC, Wii, everything in kitchen, bathroom, living etc. The only thing that we do not have is a house, and I have been saving tons of money to become a house owner and move out from our small apartment. We will be paying our wedding bills together. I would rather ask for cash so that new gifts is not going to overwhelm our tiny apartment, and we are literary running out of space, but my boy friend think it is rude to ask for cash. I found some poem online here, and think that I can use this. Do you think is too rude?
"We are sending out this invitation,
And hope you will join our celebration.
If to send a gift is your intention,
In modesty we would like to mention,
We have already got a kettle and a toaster,
      Crockery, dinner mats and coasters,
So rather than something we have already got,
Please give us money for our saving pot.
      But, most importantly, we request,
That you turn up as our wedding guest"
I am Asian and he is Caucasian, and it is totally normal/ understood that new couples should get cash for their wedding in my cultural. I also think that it is convenient for my guests just to slip some cash into nice envelope with card instead of running to store to buy gifts and wrap them.
Please help! I am very sad about the situation now.
I got some advice online that even the poem itself is very rude and low-class. I just found this website:

      http://www.myregistry.com/default.aspx

This website allowed me to have cash as wedding gift, I decide to name "my cash gifts" as "Down payment for a house in future", and my guests can pay money by credit card and buy a gift too, because my boy friend is going to register some gift online. What you think about this solution?
      Hi Kimmy
I agree with you. In my cultural, it is very rude if we go to people’s wedding and doesn’t bring a red envelop with cash in it. In fact, I talk to my boy friend, how about no registry at all, and tell everyone don’t buy anything for us. But he said this is not a good solution either because people will think you want cash and you are very rude! Sigh!
I would like to have my guests to come to my wedding just because I want them here. I am totally cool if they bring no cash or no gift. In my opinion, if it is rude to ask for money, why is it OK to ask for gifts and having gift registry? That also means I no need to registry at any places. But remember that you told you that my boy friend said if I do not registry, people will think I want cash and they will think it is rude. Also, if I do not registry at any place, they will still buy "SOMETHING", and even worst, because I might really no need or want that "SOMETHING" that randomly bought by them!

What furniture/appliances are an absalute neccesity in a house… (will be on a tight budget) please read ?

        Thursday, January 27th, 2011

I am moving in two years and starting to save now… I will have quite a bit saved by then (around £7,000) However out of that £7,000 I will need to also buy…

A moped, prefrably 50cc. Used can run anywhere from £500-£2000 my budget for this is £1000

The equipment such as helmets/firstyears insurance/tax/gloves/leather to keep warm in winter. Could run up to £700

Rent deposit – Gonna rent somewhere about £350/month deposit, according to rightmove and paper will be about £400 (I understand in some places it is 2 months worth though)

First years tv Licence – £130

        Internet/phone setup £150 I belive

All this comes to £2,380 trying to cheapen it to £2000.

I also want some left over for emergencys. Won’t have much mabe £1000 so that leaves £4000 for furniture

However, I would prefer not to spend such an amount on furniture (im not cheap its just there really is no need)

Ill be buying used andn new stuff so what furniture will I actually need…

here are some I defnatly do…

        A pc
        A pc desk
        Tv
        Tv stand
        sofa
        Iron
        Bed
        wardrobe
        curtains
First time grocerys? sticking to the budget of £100/month

        I already have…

        Fridge
        Freezer
        Washer
        Dryer
        Plates/pots/pans.
        Kettle toaster
        Microwave
        sugar pots

        What else do I NEED?

Btw I need about £2,000 emegency funding tbh… so I need to find a way to get things for 2k :S
